What a change in Santa Cruz Market 🙂 I was surprised, a whole new store now. I’ve been shopping at SC since I was 15. There’s more produce and more variety now. The merchandise is well organized before it was a mess. The floor needs some work but seems like it’s in process. I think the new owners know the business and understand the customer needs.

Severely deteriorated experience after the ownership change, even with the "upgrades."

Produce quality has gone down. Frequently stock molding fruit.

Employees now seem unhappy when they seemed like they genuinely enjoyed being there before.

Branding on house made items is now generic 7/11 looking.

"Nothing will change" they said when SC markets were sold in summer of 2024.

Ahem, everything is changing.
Re-arranged.

Avocados are refrigerated in the back then placed in unrefrigerated bins for sale. They don't keep as well this way. Maybe they're 'riper" but it was sometimes nice to get one just right and one with a few days to ripen.

Meats that were regularly rotated on sale: haven't seen sales in last month. The low grade ground beef that was regularly $1.99 is now usually $2.99. Haven't seen chicken leg quarters or chorizo go on sale in weeks.

Staff: Lots of new faces.

I get it; some suppliers change, consolidate, etc. But message to the ownership. When you say "nothing will change" and then everything changes... not a lot of integrity there. I hope you're treating the team well.

I'll continue to shop there and hope things sort out, but will also check out the other local markets more, like the one across the street.

This is a fun market. Lots of variety without having to go to a chain. The staff is friendly. They even have an S&H Green Stamps sign (though not sure if you can still get them) - but that brought me back to my younger days when my mom and I collected them! Shop local, go here!

We love going to this place. Lots of spices for authentic Mexican food. Decent prices for produce and meat. Love their fresh chiccarones
