I just went through 8 states and this was a huge highlight. Beautiful energy, birds singing everywhere, light rain, waterfall running. Great friendly person in the gift shop. The rune stone was quite impressive. The grounds were well kept and maintained. Wonderful little meditation bench. Excellent experience overall.

Was on a short vacation in the dead of winter with my boyfriend and was looking for some places in the area to hike other than the State Park we were staying at. Found this place by a simple google search of hiking near me and I’m so so glad we did. This place offered some of the best hiking ever! And the Viking Runes and history was such an awesome surprise that came along with it. The views were beautiful and the caves/rocks gave for a neat change of scenery. Absolutely loved it. It was only 20 degrees out but we still had a blast. The waterfall was also going! I can only imagine what this place would look like in the fall or spring. I bet it’s gorgeous. The lady in the gift shop was so very kind and was telling us some history about the park and it’s past. She was very informative and we loved chatting with her. I cannot believe a place like this is free! What a hidden gem! If you’re ever in the area, please please check this beautiful place out. You won’t regret it!

Really nice place to visit to see some local history and walk around. The kids loved climbing down and walking around. It’s not strenuous hiking or climbing at all. Very easy for everyone to get in and out and offers a lot of great spots for beautiful photos. The woman in the gift shop was very pleasant also.

This is NOT a place to use your hiking skills. WELL MARKED trail leading to small nature center with historic runes inside, brought from Shawnee and believed to be fr the Aztec era. Interesting, not challenging.

Really had an amazing time walking the trails and looking at the Runes. The caretaker even opened the store for us so we could get a few items in the gift shop. Super friendly service and beautiful location.

Spectacular views and amazing Viking history all along the trails! There are beautiful cabins to rent and an tv park below to use. There is a very nice place to park and see a gorgeous view only one like it around. You can see for miles from there. Bathrooms are clean and there is a cute cosy gift shop that has really cool Viking memorabilia. Oh park is absolutely FREE and there is benches, camping spots, an event building for any event you might want to have and a big playground for both littles and bigger kids.
