In the heart of Astoria lies a beautiful shop named Port Hopper. Its wide windows allows you to catch a full view of the goods from across world. I was lucky enough to visit and take a look around. It is not only a shop that shows what Astoria is all about but what the world is and everything it could offer. From its Mushroom Kits to its artisanal blown glass decor, every pieces creates a sense of thought and curiosity. The owners, Adrian and Eric are there to answer any questions these goods could invoke and excite. It’s wonderful how everything is laid out and even the upstairs shows artworks by local artist, really shows how much thought and care the owners put into filling not only their store but the world with creativity and a sense of home. When I get the chance to visit Astoria once again, it will be the first and last place I go to. I hope anyone reading this checks them out.

UPDATE: Thank you for your response and for explaining the situation. I appreciate the effort you put into your shop, and I want to reiterate that I’ve always enjoyed visiting before. That said, I did want to clarify that during my visit, no one greeted me or offered assistance while I shopped, which made the experience of being followed around feel more uncomfortable. I understand that may not have been your intention, and thank you again for addressing my concerns. I hope to visit again in the future.

Let me start off by saying I really do love this shop and have had nothing but wonderful experiences up until now.

I was in yesterday and I felt very watched/followed around the store by an individual who I believe works there. As I perused about, it just became more and more uncomfortable for me since everywhere I looked, this particular gentlemen seemed to have his eye on me and was always close by no matter where I was. I began to wonder if the bulky coat I was wearing was giving off red flags somehow, but it was rainy and cold outside, so logically I didn’t think that was too out of the ordinary.

Even though I was uncomfortable, I continued to shop. My husband eventually met me inside the store, I bought a few really cool stickers and then we left.

I noticed as we were leaving, that particular gentlemen followed us out of the store, but the other individual working had followed behind him and stopped him? Not really sure if that last part is all just a coincidence, but it all just appeared a bit suspicious and too coincidental to me.

I’ve never experienced anything like that in this shop before, but after this experience I am a bit hesitant to go back. I understand theft happens and you have to keep a close eye on everything and everyone, but maybe don’t make it so uncomfortably obvious?

A shop with filled with carefully curated and unique goods! Clean yet bountiful displays filled with whimsical treasures, and delightful surprises at every turn. Staff is friendly and helpful, full of information and ideas. Even the background music is perfect! This shop alone is a great reason to visit Astoria, and a must see if you find yourself nearby. We are looking forward to our next visit!!!
