Ainslee's makes it easy to acquire your mandatory white paper bag full of taffy to bring home from the coast, if it makes it that far. They've got a wide variety of flavors along the left hand wall as you enter, and it's a choose your own flavors, and fill the bag as you go experience.
They've got artwork on the walls that looks like it may have been there since they opened in the 1940s, and their mechanical taffy puller / wrapper is still on proud display near the entrance as it cranks out treats for tourists.
Working your way to the back of the store, the checkout experience is helmed by a pleasant young person, with information about Ainslee's history.

I have changed my review based on the response to my previous review of this business to hopefully make it more acceptable to them.
I recently purchased divinity from this store while on a trip home from a very emotional and stressful visit with my father, who had just been placed in a memory care unit. I was looking for a small comfort, a bit of nostalgic sweetness to lift my spirits as my father, brother and I had spent a lot of time on the Oregon Coast during my childhood. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. While the texture of the candy was fine, the nuts had clearly gone bad, leaving an unpleasant aftertaste that ruined the overall experience.
Given the price and the specialty nature of divinity, I expected much better quality control. I never thought to call the store because it was a food product and I knew I could not take it back as I was about 180 miles away from the store. Considering the tone of the response to my review, I’m actually glad I didn’t. If a business reacts defensively instead of calmly offering solutions or showing a willingness to make improvements, I doubt a phone call would have led to anything productive. Given the circumstances, I was really hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet expectations, and I don’t plan to return.

This is a great place to come and get salt water taffy and other sweet treats. The staff is very friendly and amazing to talk with. Stop by and see them.

We went in for the salt water taffy also bought chocolate and caramel corn. The taffy was delicious, but the chocolate and caramal corn were out of this world. If you go, try it... It's absolutely amazing!

The taffy is fantastic. Today they pulled at least two flavors. Fresh black cherry and licorice. Make sure you sample at least a piece of taffy and purchase at least a little of their amazing hand dipped chocolates as well. My favorite is the sea foam in milk chocolate. My second trip to Depoe Bay in a month and I am now heading home with a full bag of yummy salt water taffy. Come give them a shot. There are really good restaurants as well. I believe Highway 101 Burger is right next-door. Make sure you check out the wave action and possible whale migration out in the bay.

It was so neat watching the worker make fresh salt water taffy! The Riptide popcorn is delicious, I highly recommend trying it.

I've tried salt water taffy all along the Oregon coast and this is my favorite so far! Even though some of the flavors were sold out and taffy wasn't being made to watch at that moment, this is the softest and best flavored salt water taffy I've tried. You can tell this is freshly made!

Bought a couple of pounds of taffy. Much of it tasted old and almost rancid. Very disappointed. Service was great!
