What really defines “the best of the best,” and who gets to decide the standard? Is it a panel of judges with their hyper-refined palates and very specific tastes? Or is it the community—the everyday diners who return again and again, not because they’ve been coerced by a shiny plaque, but because they genuinely think your food is worth coming back for?

I see restaurants leaning into this trope all the time. Especially when it comes to burgers, barbecue, or chili, they love to flex their “award-winning” titles. You know the ones: ‘Voted Best Chili in Houston’. It’s right there on the menu, presented as undeniable proof that what’s about to hit your table is nothing short of culinary greatness. But here’s the thing: did my taste buds cast that vote? Did yours?

Take Ron’s Hamburgers and Chili, for example. Sure, the chili is good—solid, even. But is it “the best”? That’s the million-dollar question. And while we’re asking, how do we really know what the judges tasted when they handed out those accolades? Do we assume the chili I had today is identical to what won over their oh-so-discerning taste buds? If I’m honest, I wouldn’t call it the best chili I’ve ever had. Don’t get me wrong—it’s far from the worst. Actually, it’s quite respectable and even sneaks into my personal Top 10. But let’s be clear: my opinion doesn’t really matter, does it?

What does matter is this: if your dining room is full every day, and customers are raving about your burgers or chili, then congratulations. That’s your proof. The community—the people who keep coming back—are the real judges, and their verdict trumps any award.

Now, onto my personal experience: I enjoyed the food and left with a lot to ponder. But I do have a couple of observations. First, your staff is clearly busy, which, while understandable, means a little of the friendliness is sacrificed. Not a dealbreaker, but worth noting. Second—and this one is a bit more critical—your bathrooms. They’re more than a convenience; they’re a trust test. If customers feel they can trust you to maintain a clean restroom, they’re more likely to trust what’s coming out of the kitchen.

So, while I’m still on the fence about whether Ron’s truly deserves the title of “the best,” I’ll likely return. After all, your reputation has piqued my curiosity, and those hamburgers might just have the final say. Time will tell.

I enjoyed the sausage cheeseburger, voted Oklahoma’s best burger, on my first ever visit to a Ron’s. As the reviews said, the service was great and the servers were friendly. It was a busy evening but my order came out quickly. (They have crackers on the table for the chili, I suppose. However, the crackers can also help hold off the hunger for a few more minutes.
My only regret was getting the regular fries. They were great fries, don’t get me wrong. After seeing all the reviews for the Spanish fries, I wish I had gotten those. Well, there’s something for next time.
A colleague had recommended I stop here, otherwise, I would never have seen the place. There’s you a good example of word-of-mouth advertising.

Everybody is very kind and respectful . I came at a busy time and something was wrong with my burger...I called and explained what I saw when I opened the bag. It wasn't really anybody's fault and not sure how it happened. They said they'd remake it for me. Which I appreciated , so I went to pick it up. I came home and realized they remade my entire order (it wasn't a big order) I wasn't expecting that! You can tell this location cares about their customers satisfaction. Thank you

Great seating,food always good.i got the jalapeño chicken with cheese tots and a bacon cheeseburger on the side…the waiter didn’t even have to help me cuz i ordered to go but ate it there but he offered anyways.nice guy.

ron’s is by far one of the best burger places I’ve ever had not just in Oklahoma but Idaho, Oregon, Texas California. Ron’s has got them all beat my personal favorite is the double big daddy. It’s 2, 1/2 pound patties and it’s amazing

I came in here because usually a local burger place is a better option than fast food. Not the case here. I got the sausage cheeseburger. If given another opportunity, I'd go to sonic, McDonald's, or Burger King instead. Bread was meh, meat was meh, toppings were meh.

After a long day of riding our motorcycles, we stopped by Ron's. Was difficult to decide on what to get as many of the choices looked scrumptious. Finally, I settled on the patty melt. My husband got the sausage cheeseburger, and we split the chili cheese fries. I mean, chili is in the name of the place, so we had to try it. It did not disappoint. Note that if you order a burger and it doesn't specify that it comes with fries, don't assume. Cause it doesn't.

Overall, I would recommend it. Was yummy.
