A unique experience. The food was delicious, but expensive, especially since they don't give you the biggest portions. The menu is limited, not that that is a bad thing. The boat ride over was cool, and it was neat to eat in a historic restaurant. The staff was great as well.

My boyfriend and I had dinner here tonight, and we both thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. The travel was pleasant, the atmosphere was calming, the food was delicious and fresh, and the service was top-tier. I already know what I'm ordering next time, which seldom happens when I go to restaurants.
The crab cakes are absolutely mouth-watering. I highly recommend. I also had the bacon wrapped scallops. Those were delicious as well.

Historical Bar and Restaurant. The bar is separate from the restaurant and has a bunch of memorabilia from over the years. Wooden floors and ceilings and a Cool vibe. Delicious Snapper that tasted like they just caught it and brought it into cook. Fresh salad and scrumptious rolls with butter. Great views of Intracoastal and Marina.

Finally had a chance to check out this local landmark in Lighthouse Point. Caps place has been around since the 1920’s and I can see why. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, there are only about 12 tables. To get to the restaurant you have to take a water taxi, It’s about a 3 minute smooth ride. If it is a rainy day, I do not recommend but they do have umbrellas if needed. The place does look like a hole in the wall but we all know the best food comes from places like this. We arrived early so we could spend some time at the bar. No fancy cocktails, this is a real old school bar. When our reservation was ready we headed to the hostess stand in the other building. Our server brought some delicious warm bread and explained the specials along with other items not listed on the menu. Note, the menu specifically says “Good food takes time, all food is prepared to order”. We started with the blackened Mahi bites. So fresh, tasted like it was caught that morning. I also got a house salad, the creamy garlic dressing is to die for. For entrees we both got the crab cakes. They were full of lump crab meat with a touch of dill flavor. They included a side of green beans that were definitely canned but they seasoned well & horseradish mashed potatoes that I really enjoyed. For dessert we saved room for the Lime Pie. It was very tart but the sweet graham cracker crust balanced it out. Overall we had a great experience.

Visited for a cocktail at the bar while in town one evening because we have never been. Food smelled amazing although we did not eat. Enjoyed chatting with the owners. Cool little boat ride over. Weather was bad the day we visited but it didn’t bother us or the covered boat ride. Boat ferry is free and although tips are appreciated and expected. You Definitely have to visit if you have never been. Be sure to read the history on it before you visit!

Excellent time again at Caps Place tonight. The food was delicious. We were a group of 7. Everyone loved the food. Melissa is the best waitress! She knows the history.
Suggestions:
-make reservations online rather than calling.
-its not Jimmy Johns so it's not freaky fast. Enjoy the atmosphere while you are there!

Unique experience with the boat ride to the historic restaurant. Everything, start to finish was terrific. We were early so had a drink at the detached bar. Sam was friendly and she makes a good Cosmo. Seafood was fresh and delicious and our server, Melissa, was an absolute delight! Will definitely go back.

For 20, maybe 30 years I've heard and read about this place. Finally I got my friend to actually drive me to it. It's authentic. I loved the atmosphere, it smells of old wood, not unpleasant, decorated with funky old Florida primitive paintings, nautical bric-a-brac and ancient framed newspaper and magazine clippings. The menu is pleasingly short, not overburdened with choices. Our party of three ate very well with high-quality ingredients. The seafood platter had some of the sweetest-tasting scallops I've eaten and some nicely sized shrimp. The crab cakes were outstanding, big pieces of crabmeat nestled in a delicious breading. The swamp cabbage (heart of palm) salad was terrific, served with a seasoned mayonnaise. Our outstanding waiter came by showing us the actually heart of the palm tree from which our salads were made. The key lime pie was on point, not too sweet with a lovely tangy tartness on a slightly crisp crust. The bar was closed but they did pour me a scotch to begin, and kept the Heinekens coming during my meal. An altogether a memorable meal, including a free boat ride!
