Prices are ridiculously high for the average income of the town and just because they’re the only grocer in Elba doesn’t mean they should be so. Sales are ALWAYS that of items right at expiration date. Their foods definitely are not rotated out and it’s very common for you to grab something outside the BB date. Store branded products are sometimes priced the same as national brands. Deli itself is very sloppy and the equipment needs replacement or deep cleaned. There are now two DG stores in town to help offset Food Giants high prices and I’ve began to shop ALDI in Enterprise because I get more groceries for my budget there thank ever could at FG.

Avoid this place. They use old ingredients from the dairy and meat section that should've been thrown out and use it in the deli. Their plates always taste 2-3 days old. Fountain machine never works. The frozen and dairy section doesn't throw away old items on their shelves. Prices are higher than they should be for the area. The parking lot is confusing and cramped. An insult to Elba! Boycott!

On two separate occasions I’ve purchases rotten food from the store. First, it was ham. The second time it was deviled eggs which had mold around each one. Also, the prices are very high. Milk is nearly $6 for Barbers brand. Bread is often not fresh. Overall, very poor ratings. The ONLY positives are the courtesy of the staff and the delicatessen’s quality of food.

Overly expensive. Not a very friendly place to shop. The parking lot is to small. This place needs a revamp and to be moved. There is an empty building called Big Time or Big 'something', which would be perfect for Food Giant to expand to. At times their fresh produce and veggies are rotten/moldy. They try to sell them at discount. 1lbs of strawberries for example of their prices sells at $5.99.

I don't like antibiotics and hormones in my meat. This is one other reason not getting meats here. They have just started carrying ground chicken, which is better than nothing. I believe it is cage free/hormone free.

Mostly I shop elsewhere. Due to the prices at FG.

I wish they'd put in a bicycle rack bolted to the cement so people riding bikes can protect their only ride. Honestly, I expected a better town and grocery store considering this place was not far from the beach. You'd think they'd want a nicer store here.

Cashier: #108

This happened a few minutes ago. I was at this register above as soon as I walked up to the register and put the basket of groceries on the conveyer belt, I always ask the cashier, "Could you put everything back in the basket, I have to pack it in my backpack." Her reply was an assumption of thievery, "You can't take the basket home." I was absolutely beside myself, "I know, I have to pack it in my backpack; as I ride a scooter." Her reply to that was, "Wouldn't bags be easier?" -(Or something to that effect). I replied back, "No, I have to repack it in my backpack." She took everything out of the basket and rang me up.

So after that and after I packed my backpack, I placed the basket on top of an empty registers bagging area- ( As I Always Do! If I can't see a place to put the basket like they usually have them away from the door and more towards the middle of the room closer to the chips near the windows.)

Well, after I placed the basket on the bagging area this employee the same one to assume I'm going to steal a plastic basket; while she is checking out and bagging another person's items looks to me and says, "Ma'am," I looked up at her," What." I said, as I have literal hearing problems. She says, "the basket." She says as she's placing someone's groceries in a plastic bag and looking at me. I pointed to where I put the basket, "It's over there."

She continues, "the basket." By the way, today was a busy day for them, very crowded and she was humiliating me in front of all these people over a stupid basket, "Ma'am the basket." Again she said it. I replied again, "Yeah it's over there." She then points and says, something about the basket again, which I couldn't hear over the bustling of people in the area, so pointed at something and i looked where she pointing and saw the baskets abnormally closer to the exit doors than they were supposed to be.

I'm not even 50% sure she asked me or told me to put the basket over with the other baskets. She did thank me unsure if it was a friendly one or not, but guessing not.

This cashier humiliated me in front of all these people. And pretty much called a thief and treated me as though I was trash under her feet.

This woman needs fired and put on her file she assumes certain people are thieves and beneath her.

Im not perfect, but I do know not to treat people the way this employee did.

Good place to get odds and ends! Don't like the meat department much! I've gotten spoiled food from there! Good snack bar and cakes in their coolers are top shelf!
