Haku formals is the best place on the big island for any type of formal wear especially prom dresses. I’ve been going to her for years now and she is the best seamstress as well. She has a great personality & is very helpful when picking out the perfect dress and will have you leaving feeling wonderful nd confident! She has moved to a new location a bit out of Hilo town but it’s still very convenient. Will go back to her again!😁

Beautiful dresses! Tressie was so sweet, patient, professional, and pulled very similar dresses from the references I sent her. So much selections for prom and bridal wear! Great experience, so glad I went to Haku Formals!

Overall I loved the experience with them. Very nice and great products .

My only problem was I was told the price would be $298 and I ended up paying $400 at the register. I just feel there wasn’t total transparency about paying $70 in shipping and & $22 for altering , plus tax. I just wish they said “it will be about $400 when all is said and done” just felt a little out of integrity. But still lovely place and people!

I came in while on vacation to find a mother of the bride dress. It had to be gold, according to my daughter. Tressie helped me find the perfect dress that was ok’ed by my daughter. She was very kind and worked hard to get the alterations finished so I could take it home. The dress is beautiful, fit me perfectly. Very happy that we found her

I had a nightmare of an experience attempting to shop for a wedding dress at Haku Formals. I called to set up an appointment to try on wedding dresses. Over the phone, I informed them of my budget and my size and was assured there’d be a selection of dresses to try on. At their recommendation, I also emailed them a list of 7 dresses from the collections on their website that fit my style, 9 days before my appointment. I was told I’d be allowed to try on 4 dresses for a fee of $40, which I was fine with.
When I arrived, the woman at the shop went to pull my dresses and I then learned she only had one of those dresses in stock and it was nowhere near my size. I was willing to be flexible and try on a variety of dresses just to have the experience of trying on some gowns, and was prepared to do this and pay the $40 try on fee. My friends (who traveled from Kona to join me on this appointment) helped me pull a few dresses from the racks that seemed worth trying on. The woman working at the shop pulled several dresses as well, but none were really my style at all (poofy, sparkly ballroom gowns with lots of tulle, when I was looking for a simple lace sheath dress). It felt like she was just scrambling to pull anything they had in size 16/18. I totally understand if they didn’t have the items I was looking for in stock- I just would have appreciated some honesty and forthcomingness about it, so I could have avoided the 45 minute drive into town, and my friends could have avoided the 2 hour drive they took to be there.
The woman working at the shop also made rude comments. I made sure to check beforehand that the shop carries plus size, because I wanted to avoid putting myself in the position of feeling bad about my body in a place where my size isn’t carried. She assured me on the phone they did carry sizes 16/18. However, while in the shop, she made a lot of rude comments like “I’m just trying to find something that we can put on this body”. I’m actually a human person, not just a body. It was pretty offensive.
On top of all that, even though I’d scheduled an appointment and arrived 10 minutes early, the woman at the shop continued to help any customer walking into the door before helping me. She was taking a man’s measurements, having a young woman try on her homecoming dress, etc. I understand if you are busy, but what is the point of making an appointment if it’s not to be honored? We asked if we could just go ahead and start my try-ons while she helped other customers, but she said we had to wait for her to be ready. We waited a full hour before we decided to leave, without even being able to try anything on. It was so disappointing and frustrating. What a terrible, unprofessional, mess of a place.

every year we go through Haku Formals and not once have we been disappointed! Always perfect fitting and exactly what we ordered with timing of suits always on time!!! We will not be going anywhere else for our formals but here!!!
