I’ve read the Highgrove Happenings for a long time, I’m disappointed to see how much the newspaper has declined under its new editor/management. Previously, it was such a vibrant and positive source of local news that celebrated our community, highlighted positive events, and offered stories that brought residents together. It was something everyone, regardless of background, could enjoy and appreciate.

Unfortunately, the recent shift has been nothing short of jarring. The newspaper now seems more focused on politics and sensationalized stories that don’t reflect our local interests. Instead of engaging content about Highgrove and more local news, we’re seeing repetitive and trivial complaints, particularly about the burros, which detract from the newspaper’s value.

What’s even more troubling is the way the newspaper now uses religious and constitutional references to justify intolerance and bigotry. Highgrove is known for its diversity and inclusivity, the schools our children go to have individuals of many races, religions, and cultures, and it's very disheartening to see the paper promoting divisive rhetoric that goes against the spirit of our community.

The previous editor managed to create a publication that fostered unity and respect among all residents. Though yes the previous editor included personalized content it was content which promoted the wellbeing of all the residents in Highgrove. It’s a shame to see this change, and I hope the newspaper will soon return to its original mission of celebrating our community, reporting news which is actually important to our local community, and promoting togetherness.

Highgrove paper used to be something I looked forward to, but now it's just a one sided political and religious ideologies. This is the reason we have separation of church and state. This is supposed to be a representation of Highgrove not just the political ideologies of one person trying to sway Highrove. Keep your political opinions to yourself and report actual FACTUAL news. Bring back the old Highrove paper.
