Overall: 4.50. Located on Rockville Pike & by Twinbrook Metro Station—modern design & aesthetics. Exceptionally well-maintained & clean with all departments neatly organized, appealing & stocked. Staff very friendly & helpful. Attached parking garage, street parking & a few free parking spaces in front of store. Other cute eateries & retailers in this shopping center. Love shopping at this Safeway.

I normally go to Safeway to refill or recycle my 5-gallon water jugs, which I originally purchased in-store. The brand of the water jugs is Primo. Next to the water vending machine is a Primo recycling bin that is supposed to dispense a ticket if you recycle the water jugs. The Glacier water vending machine has been out of order for two weeks with no sign indicating that it is not functioning. After a few attempts to make the vending machine work, I eventually decided to recycle the water jugs to get the honor voucher ticket for recycling which provides a significant discount to a new purchase of water jugs. The ticket did not dispense. So I went to customer service a spoke with the manager to see if they would honor the recycling. He explained that the recycling is a third-party company and it is not allowed to be used if there is no ticket. However, the week prior I did the same thing because the water vending machine was broken, and they honored the discount. This week they will not honor the discount. I explained to them that is a false advertisement and it is price gauging as the same water company sells the water jugs inside the store and is supposed to be a system of encouraging recycling. This is unacceptable as I do not buy individual water bottles I use a recyclable 5- gallon and I was told there is nothing they can do. To add more transparency if you purchase a 5-gallon jug in-store it will be 10x as much as using the vending machine which is currently out of order. And 3x as much if you purchase the jugs outright without recycling. I will not be shopping at Safeway anymore as nothing in their store is affordable and the only thing I need from them is water and that too is not too expensive for my taste. The customer service is not trained correctly and the store's security follows ethnic people around as if we are stealing. Overall, uncomfortable/unacceptable/unaffordable experience. I make over 100k a year and I think those prices are highway robbery.

Usually I don’t write Google reviews but this time is really unacceptable. We bought bread on 01/03/2025 that expired on 12/21/2024 and it even turned green.

When we returned it, the lady with a nose ring at the customer service counter refunded our money extremely unfriendly and impatiently. When we wanted more explanation, she just kept asking us "What do you want me to do? “ From beginning to end, she NEVER said sorry, no professionalism at all. Her expression was as if it was our fault for buying expired food.

To safeway’s management: if u really care ur business, train ur employees better and FIRE HER!

You’ll receive attentive customer service particularly under the current circumstances where you have to scan each item on your own.

For the stock of produce, you can find various fresh, well-maintained, organized items here. I like checking deals in early morning to avoid busy self-cashiers and to get sirloin stake that’s been waiting to be cooked on a sizzling hot gas grill!

My son, who's a black male, is harassed when he shops here. The other evening, I (his mother) witnessed (as-soon-as we entered the store) the Security Guard hurry his way toward us until he saw me. I immediately stopped and asked my son if that was happening often and he replied, YES, BUT I DON'T PAY IT ANY ATTENTION". You guys have to do better because he hasn't stolen anything and that is because "HE SIMPLY DOESN'T HAVE TO"! My son comes there to purchase groceries (like everyone else), therefore he should be treated like everyone else, and, also, because he lives on Chapman Avenue-which is right around the corner (makes perfect sense to me).
