We booked a week of fishing with Grant. Caleb has taken us out on the upper Kenai in a drift boat. Two days on the Ninilchik river fishing with Grant and Caleb for Dolly Varden. We caught some beautiful fish and had a great time.

Both Grant and Caleb are very good at teaching you how to fly fish if you are a beginner and helping cure your bad habits if you are somewhat experienced.

Called and booked a full day for two on the Kenai many months ago. Option A was Wednesday with another customer in the boat or Option B was Thursday all by ourselves. We chose Option B.

My partner got Covid on the way to AK. Called and told them that partner would probably not be able to fish and asked if they wanted me to move to Wednesday. That didn’t work because that boat was now full. No big deal.

Called Wednesday to confirm that partner was 100% out. Asked if they had any Covid refund policy and was told no. Again, No big deal. I get it. At least I’ll get a private day with a guide.

Was surprised when I was then told that once they learned my partner was not coming they booked another customer in the boat. Asked again about my costs now that another angler had been added to replace my partner and was told no. I’m still paying for two. Oh well. Let’s go fish and have a good day.

Guide arrived late, then spent the next half-hour building leaders from scratch at the boat launch. One more thing I thought was strange: our guide spent a lot of time fishing on his own, catching more fish than I was. There was about a dozen competitor guide services on the water and none of them had the guide fishing. Oh well, maybe it’s just me.

Tipped the guide $50, because I’m not a jerk, and called it a day. Next time I’m going to book with a different company.

Booked for a half day afternoon fishing trip with Grant in July 2022 on the Anchor River. I had a fantastic outing. Reeled in several Dolly Varden. A bald eagle even swooped in and stole one of the fish I just landed! Talk about a true Alaska experience. Grant is a patient teacher and a true gentleman. I learned a lot from him. The Fly Box is highly recommended.

I've gone out twice with Grant, one for Sockeye in 2019 and the other for Coho in 2020, and I have always come back with fish. Grant is a great teacher and very passionate about what he does. Any time any of my friends or family come out, I always send them Grants way. Grant is very professional and I have never been disappointed when I use his guiding service. A small bait shop attached to a gift shop run by a fairly well-known local guide. The shop doesn't have a ton of inventory, but it definitely has enough to get you going to catch some salmon or halibut. The owner is just about as skilled and knowledgeable as a fisherman can possibly be. Bookings for fishing day or weekend trips are fairly priced, and you're almost guaranteed to go home with a healthy amount of fish as well as pictures and memories to go along with it. Stopped by for a few flies and to chat with the owner while on a trip to Homer a few weeks ago. Real nice guy that had plenty of information for us and sent us to a great fishing hole. Nice little place with good flies and good customer service.
